Tue, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 700 Level, Room 707

Abstract

Much of the response to the Trump's administrations decision to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals has been on its impact on students, in particular those pursing higher education. Yet, within education an important population has been overlooked: teachers. Drawing on Borderlands theory and using qualitative methods, this narrative case study investigate how DACAmented teachers understand the contradiction of creating citizens in a societal structure that does not legally recognize their presence? What impact does their status have on classroom practices? This work has high reaching implications for student achievement and teacher performance.
