The purpose of this study is to investigate the heterogeneous types of district effectiveness across all public districts in the United States (n=11340) through an application of a growth mixture modeling (GMM) using National Center Education Statistics (NCES) Common Core of Data (CCD) and Stanford Education Data Archive (SEDA). The GMM identified at least three different types of district effectiveness: increasing districts (1.92%), consistent districts (95.79%) and decreasing districts (2.29%). District demographic variables included urbanity, enrollment size, overall district SES status, race component, student-teacher ration and district level instructional expenditure significantly affects the classification of district effectiveness membership.
