The increase of data-based decision making is regarded as a global educational strategy for improving student outcomes. In 2012 the Republic of Ireland implemented educational policy mandating the use and reporting of standardized testing as part of a larger initiative to improve school quality. The use of data to guide improvement was a central focus of the policy. A national survey of 1, 564 Irish primary teachers was conducted to document instructional responses to the policy implementation and gather information on their use of test results to make instructional decisions, administrative practices, and professional development needs for data use. The survey results highlight unique needs of educators based on their role and responsibilities and suggest a demand for differentiated supports.
