The Role of Awareness in Experiential Learning: A Semiotic Analysis

Sat, April 6, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 200 Level, Room 205D

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to describe the role of awareness in experiential learning. While many previous works on experiential learning have focused on the role of action and reflection on enhancing experience, this study focuses on awareness. Although difficult to research and analyze, the impact of awareness on learning is very real. Thus, the findings from this analysis provide a compelling argument for the role of awareness in experiential learning. In contrast, a lack of awareness has a limiting effect on learning. In the following sections, a theoretical approach for fostering awareness to enrich experiential learning is discussed.
