From the Center to the Horizon: Engaging "Crip Horizons" in Critical Qualitative Inquiry

Abstract

Here we respond to the call for engaging in a new critical qualitative inquiry, as we consider issues related to power, privilege, voice, identity, and agency, while also examining the hegemonic power of ableism and ableist epistemologies. In this paper, we offer the notion of “crip horizons” as a way forward, one (perhaps of many) ways to advance a disability justice agenda within the qualitative methodological community—and as such we are required to consider new questions and engage with method and methodological possibilities in ways far beyond what normative structures and words offer. In addition, we offer some pragmatic implications moving critical qualitative inquiry to “crip horizons” as additional ways forward.
