Abstract

In the following paper, the author uses quantitative analysis to explore the financial aid verification process at a community college located in California. Utilizing institutional data, analyses of descriptive statistics, crosstabulation, and regression are conducted to examine factors that are predictors for the likelihood of students being selected for financial aid verification. The preliminary findings of the paper connect to Piven and Cloward's theory of regulating the poor, which is demonstrated through the difficult financial aid regulations that students and colleges must adhere to.
