Community schools are designed to provide students and families with increased access to coordinated, comprehensive services within the school and local community. Leveraging partnerships between schools, families, and communities creates a space for addressing the complex and multifaceted needs of historically marginalized populations and promotes students’ access to quality education. This research highlights dually-focused efforts to implement community school strategies targeting students’ academic and nonacademic needs in three longstanding community schools. Using data from in-depth interviews and document analysis, the authors detail implementation efforts situated in bottom-up reform strategies, shared leadership, and collaboration for system redesigns.
