The purpose of this conceptual paper is to describe and critique current methodological trends in investigations of young children’s dis/ability and race concepts. I argue that these methodological trends often lead to recommending curricular interventions aimed at changing individual children’s attitudes without critically examining how intersecting and oppressive ideologies are perpetuated through adult practice. Drawing on critical perspectives on inclusive education, sociocultural theory, and Dis/ability Critical Race Theory, I assert the need for intersectional and multi-plane research that examines young children’s dis/ability and race concepts. I conclude with examples from research that provide a roadmap for future investigations.
