Poster #32 - Above and Beyond State-Mandated Report Cards: An Analysis of District-Driven Accountability Reports

Abstract

With the emergence of the accountability movement has come the requirement that states provide access to school and district level data. The rationale for mandating access to this information is that increased transparency will enable families and communities to become informed education stakeholders. However, report cards that only emphasize standardized testing do not provide sufficient information for assessing school quality. In 2014 a group of districts in Ohio decided to develop their own quality reports to supplement district report cards. This study utilizes a qualitative approach to examine this phenomena, looking at the demographics of participating districts, the type of information that is shared in the quality reports, and variations in the types of information that are provided across districts.
