Abstract

A secondary school English teacher and a university professor of freshman writing present research on a multigrade-level project where students categorize/code patterns of teacher comments on each of their papers in a Google doc over several months and then correspond about resources and peer review of writing. Student surveys indicate positive responses to communicating via text message over pen/paper communication or face to face conferences, and student coding and recording/tallying of teacher comments provide greater understanding of both expectations in writing and resources and techniques for improvement. The researchers discuss these results and avenues for future research, hoping the presentation builds shared knowledge about pedagogy and research trends.
