What Happens When Compliance Officers and Online Educational Design and Support Mingle?

Sat, April 6, 8:00 to 9:30am, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Lower Concourse, Grand Centre

Abstract

Online education compliance officers have witnessed a series of complicated regulatory developments and shifts over the past decade. In monitoring these developments, the authors of this study have observed a trend toward closer regulatory oversight at the classroom level. Federal investigations into web accessibility or financial aid mismanagement, for instance, will often involve interviews with individual students and the inspection of course materials. Using legal research methods, the authors compiled a list of high priority compliance topics for instructors and course designers to learn. The authors then researched best practices for online instruction that relate to these compliance mandates and, through collaboration with other offices, began the process of merging compliance and quality resources to create new, interdisciplinary trainings.
