Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and Rate of Office Discipline Referrals for Subgroup Populations: Implications for the Classroom

Sat, April 6, 12:20 to 1:50pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 200 Level, Room 203C

Abstract

PBIS has been shown to reduce office discipline referrals (ODRs) in schools. The main hypothesis was when PBIS is implemented with fidelity there is a main effect for years of implementation with fewer ODRs in the fourth year of implementation than in the first year. The second hypothesis was when PBIS is implemented there is a greater reduction in the rate of ODRs for Black and Hispanic students than their White peers. The data for this study came from the OSEP National PBIS Technical Assistance Center. The hypotheses were tested with two two-way within schools ANOVAs. Implications for classroom practice are discussed.
