Mon, April 8, 10:25 to 11:55am, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Lower Concourse, Osgoode Ballroom

Abstract

With the high demands for content knowledge learning and academic English language in public schools for emergent bilingual students as the rationale, this presentation surveys 12 empirical articles focusing on the use of multimodal tools in content area classrooms. The purpose of this academic literature review is to explore how multimodal tools used in content area instruction can affect the academic language and content development of emergent bilingual students in middle school and high school. Implications for teaching and future research are proposed.
