Nonlinear Association of Asian Student School Composition and Hmong Student Developmental Skills

Abstract

This study examines the association between Asian student school composition (proportion of Asian students in the school) and Hmong students’ developmental outcomes, including developmental skills and supports. The data come from the 2016 statewide Minnesota Student Survey. With a sample of 3,079 self-identified Hmong students, findings indicate a nonlinear association between school composition and developmental skills, and a linear association between school composition and developmental supports. Implications for practice and policy are discussed.
