Abstract

This paper reports on empirical research investigating the mobility of environmental and sustainability education (ESE) policy from international to local contexts within the Canadian formal education system. This paper focuses on local policy enactment through in-depth examination of ESD engagement in the province of Manitoba. The primary objective of this work is to understand what kinds of enabling and constraining factors are involved in the uptake of ESE, and its travel across multiple scales of educational policymaking. This case study highlights the multi-directionality of ESD policy flows; its variegated uptake; and, ultimately its vulnerability to political change.
