Taking Community Engagement Seriously Through Maker Pedagogy: A Collaborative Self-Study

Tue, April 9, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 200 Level, Room 203B

Abstract

Our paper will use collaborative self-study between the three authors and members of the maker pedagogy lab to help us describe, interpret, and analyse the effects that our efforts to engage local maker community members have had on our pedagogies of teacher education. Specifically, we unpack the ways in which visits to local maker community spaces have challenged us to think about the affordances and challenges of our work in a formal teacher education environment, and the ways in which we might reframe our practice with a view to being more responsive with the community.
