Developing Reliable and Valid Measures of Diversity, Equity, and Integration in Schools and School Systems

Abstract

This presentation will describe the development and use of new measurement scales that schools and school systems can use to track their progress in moving from being “desegregated” -- having diverse bodies in their buildings-- to becoming more fully “integrated” settings where all children learn at high levels, feel included, appreciate their own and other cultures, understand racism, and work to dismantle it. It represents a collaboration of a project at a major university that provides resources and tools to schools and systems working to foster school integration and a major national organization that uses research-backed surveys and a leading technology platform to help educators in over 8,500 schools and 500 districts act on data to improve student outcomes.
