Finding Place: Journeys of Women of Color in Academia

Sun, April 7, 3:40 to 5:10pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 200 Level, Room 201B

Abstract

In this qualitative study, we present findings on how women of color in academia perceived their journeys and the factors that led to changes in their academic careers. Using Critical Race Theory as our lens, we examine the factors that four women of color identify as factors in impacting their career trajectory. Analysis of surveys and discussion revealed administration/leadership as the biggest factor, and illuminated the importance of sharing their stories. We discuss implications of our findings for future research.
