Poster #41 - Development of a Short Form of the Social Issues Advocacy Scale–2

Mon, April 8, 12:20 to 1:50pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

Growing international interest in Global Education includes enhancing knowledge, building skills, and adopting attitudes that promote actions for a more equal, just, and sustainable world (Irish Aid, 2006), all of which are dimensions of social justice advocacy measured by the Social Issues Advocacy Scale-2 (Author, 2017a), making it a potential tool for assessment. However, given the reliability and length of the SIAS-2, it is both desirable and feasible to shorten it. In Study 1, we developed a short-form version of the SIAS-2 using a sample of 284 psychology, counseling psychology, and education students and professionals. In Study 2, we field-tested the scale in 381 Irish education students. We obtained evidence to support content, construct, and structural validity.
