Poster #22 - Latent Profile Analyses of Achievement Motivations and Metacognitive Behaviors and Their Relations to Achievement

Fri, April 5, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to identify motivational and metacognitive profiles based on multiple types of motivations and metacognitive learning strategies. For this research, latent profile analyses (LPAs) were conducted with ten types of motivational constructs and three kinds of metacognitive learning processes. Each LPA identified four motivational profiles and three metacognitive profiles. A multinomial logistic regression (MLR) analysis suggested that student demographic information significantly influenced the membership of motivational profiles. Also, another MLR analysis revealed that membership of motivational profiles is significantly associated with membership of metacognitive profiles. Regarding the relations profiles with academic achievement, certain motivational and metacognitive profiles demonstrated the best performance. The scholarly significance of these findings is discussed.
