An Exploratory Study on How Live Courses Reshape the Classroom Social Interaction of Primary School Students and Teachers in China

Abstract

This study aims to make up the gap of the research on live video as an under-explored pedagogical tool for young children. Through semi-structured interviews and supplementary survey, the study investigates the acceptance of primary school students to live courses in China and explores how the live courses affect their online interaction. The findings show live courses have become an integral part of Chinese K-12 online education market, and the learner-interface interaction plays a significant role in improving children’s online learning experience. The results also indicate that distance educators need to design and manage the live classroom in a new and online manner based on the unique characteristics of online interaction instead of trying to duplicate offline face-to-face classes exactly.
