Abstract

This study investigated student learning process using a 6th grade science textbook that is used in public schools as a multimedia learning material. This was accomplished by using eye-tracking as well as utilizing multimedia learning design and visual design of science textbooks to extend the perspectives based on the literature. Research results revealed that multimedia learning design of cell biology chapter facilitated learning and helped attentional focus on relevant images during learning process when cell biology chapter of a 6th grade science textbook designed based on certain principles of the cognitive theory of multimedia learning and visual design. Thus, the research provides both theoretical and practical implications for multimedia learning design of science textbooks and further research.
