Abstract

This symposium investigates the key components of computational thinking (CT), and the various ways this competency is being assessed within K-12 classrooms. The session has a total of five (5) presenters and a chair. Presenters focus on various components of CT, including its integration and assessment within K-12 coursework, and how to better prepare students and teachers for such assessment through various tools and frameworks. The primary goal of the session is to better understand exactly what is meant by the term “computational thinking”, investigating how and where it is being assessed in U.S. preparatory programs. Too often CT is used as a catch-all term whose meaning can be, in fact, significantly different depending upon how one is assessing it.
