Poster #36 - Latinx Students' Experiences in Inclusive Science Curriculum: An Exploratory Study on Students' Opportunities to Learn

Sat, April 6, 4:10 to 5:40pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

Drawing upon the conception of opportunity to learn, this study explores the type and nature of science learning experiences reported by Latinx high school students from various backgrounds. In an in depth exploration of 9 Latinx high school students, this study explores how students with different backgrounds with science experience an inclusive curriculum. From the students experiences, we were able understand how the design of inclusive curriculum creates meaningful and equitable learning opportunities in secondary science classrooms, and how students differentially engage in opportunities to learn. This study highlights the impact of inclusive curriculum on students and their views on science and science education.
