Pláticas con Yanaguana: Indigenous Youth Transnationally Organizing for Water Sovereignty

Abstract

The International Indigenous Youth Council (IIYC) born out of Standing Rock, was founded by Indigenous women and two-spirit water protectors. As an Indigenous woman and founding member of the IIYC Yanaguana chapter, I've participated, and organized movements rooted in the protection of all relations across Turtle Island.
Along the journey I ask what’s the connection between water protectors and hearing the call to defend water? Also, how has connecting with other youth transnationally through technology, altered avenues that Indigenous youth organize around water and healing. Through recorded stories of water protectors and protectors of undocumented children advocating for the abolishment of dehumanizing detainment practices-- These stories employ a hydro-logic lens allowing conversations to flow through the lives of protector’s experiences’.
