Experiential Learning and Networking: Bridging Cross-Cultural Communication for Local Community With Digital Video Composition

Abstract

The social and digital turn of literacy show literacy is situated social practice with modes of communication not confined by words (Gee, 2000), and one of them is to use video composition in response to culturally and linguistically diverse society by letting students to use semiotic resources to express their voices to the larger audience outside classrooms (Miller & Bruce, 2017). The study focused on how five sophomores expressed and negotiated their voices through various modes when producing a video for a refugee service. Data were collected from five meetings through instruments such as artifact and field notes. Findings showed students were able to negotiate modes of communication in producing a video for cross-cultural communication and implementations will be discussed.
