Poster #17 - Cultivating Citizenship and Belonging Through Youth's Embodiment of Multimodal Literacy Spaces

Mon, April 8, 10:25 to 11:55am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

In a time when our local/global world are more divided than ever, the need to bridge communities and to respect diverse beliefs have become even more vital to the well-being of children, families, communities and beyond. By examining how young people (12-to-15 years old) at an alternative-to-detention afterschool program seamlessly transition their activism between online and physical spaces, this paper illustrates how discovering and honoring our lived experiences and our everyday moments are pathways to nurturing public scholarship and democratic communities.
