To support our local school district, we aimed to establish a research-practice-partnership (RPP) to improve learning outcomes through equitable implementation of NGSS. Using a comparative case study approach, we examined our roles, our emerging partners’ roles and contextual influences to understand challenges we as pre-tenured faculty encountered in developing the RPP. We found that the districts' skepticism towards outsiders, centralization of expertise, and impoverished responses to diversity influenced our emerging relationships. Because much of the RPP scholarship is written by tenured faculty, we intend for this paper to contribute to the conversation concerning the negotiation and navigation of an RPP, centered on the perspective of pre-tenured faculty seeking to support sustainable change.
