Critical curriculum and pedagogies are not commonly implemented in the K-12 public school system. Current scholarship highlights the contributions Ethnic Studies programs have on Chicanx/Latinx Youth; however, little is discussed about the effects these programs have on Muxeres of Color’s (MOC) personal and academic trajectories. Emma Perez suggests a decolonizing subject emerges when a person transforms their marginalized status into an active agent of social change by negotiating space. This study’s objective is to understand how MOC in high school and higher education create a third space by co-facilitating an alternative after-school program to create a greater potential for high school commencement, higher education enrollment, and social agency to continue to improve their communities.
