This study examines the labor market outcomes of science and engineering undergraduate students as predicted by individual, departmental and institutional level characteristics. Employing the National Survey of Recent College Graduates and a new database capturing departmental and institutional characteristics, we found interesting patterns in the gender and racial disparities in occupational outcomes. Monetary and nonmonetary career outcomes were also influenced by individual’s academic background as well as institutional location, faculty and financial resources, and prestige. The findings from this study will inform national policies around recruitment efforts for female and minorities to the S&E workforce. Also, the study will inform institutional and departmental practices to ensure successful transition of S&E graduates to workforce.
