Entering History Through Multisource Text Inquiry: A Study of Urban Middle School Students Learning From Multiple Digital Sources in History

Abstract

This study concerns student learning and instructional scaffoldings through a multisource text inquiry unit of history we designed for urban middle school students. In this presentation, we offer our analysis of student discourse around the unit activity which involved them in video-recording themselves as they worked on the activity. Based on the findings, we then discuss our initial efforts to theorize the intellectual work of middle school learners situated in their making use of historical sources.
