The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the literature about challenges researchers may face when conducting research with LGBTQ+ youth in a “post-truth” era. The article contains autoethnographic reflections on the challenges faced by one researcher as she conducted research that sought to understand and document the ways in which marginalized LGBTQ youth utilized social media. Recommended research strategies are provided to assist researchers in overcoming challenges to research with marginalized and hidden populations.
