This study introduces Knowledge Forum, as an online community space, to a grade 6 class to support their pervasive sharing and building of knowledge within and beyond their News discussion sessions. Group discussions are conducted before and after the integration of Knowledge Forum to collect feedback regarding the opportunities and barriers to students’ pervasive work with ideas. Students suggest that they have ideas throughout the day and in a variety of physical contexts. Barriers proposed by students include time constraints, technical difficulties, and lack of technical support for multimedia sharing. The ongoing focus of future work is establishing externalization of ideas into knowledge artifacts as a core community practice.
