Learning and Emotions of College Professors in Experiences of Social Responsibility Within Their Courses

Abstract

This paper presents the partial results of a more extensive study, carried out from 2015 to 2018, about the conceptions about the social responsibility of university teachers and the way they promote social responsibility in their classroom . The research question was about the conceptions and practices of university teachers about social responsibility. The present work gives an account of the results of the qualitative phase in in-depth interviews with 48 teachers from different disciplines, from five Jesuit universities in Mexico. Teachers said that they learned to give their students more freedom, trust them and venture into new experiences, such as service-learning. The emotions that were raised were positive, such as satisfaction, feelings of enthusiasm, joy, empathy, among the most important.
