The Potential of Teacher Trainings for Child Abuse Prevention

Sat, April 6, 10:25 to 11:55am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 700 Level, Room 706

Abstract

As one way to prevent child sexual abuse (CSA), we emphasized the proactive role of teachers. To empower teachers to play a critical role, we explored the potential of CSA teacher training on improving teachers’ related knowledge, attitude and perceptions. By analyzing the data from the implementation of a CSA prevention program using structural equation modeling (SEM), we found the significant effect of CSA teacher training on improving these teacher outcomes. Importantly, the effect was more pronounced for those teachers with lower prior knowledge, attitude, and perceptions.
