Utilizing Morrison's (Re)Memory to Engage Sustainable Leadership Practice

Abstract

Using Toni Morrison’s rememory as an analytic frame, I call attention to schools as sites of haunting and displacement for students of color where these moments are evoked through the act of rememory. Centering the narrative of Anya, a Black undergraduate student who reflects on her K-12 schooling experience as a queer Black woman from a low socio-economic background, this paper draws on her narrative to inform the field of school leadership to consider the historical memory of schools and the experiences of students of color who find themselves marginalized in multiple ways.
