Institutional Arrangements to Foster Connections and Prepare Partners in Research-Practice Partnerships

Abstract

Researchers and practitioners actively collaborate on projects to make improvements to education practice. There is a divide between research and problems of practice that requires a new and stronger form of collaboration. Research-Practice Partnerships provide principles and a framework to bridge this gap. A large private university in a University/Public-School Partnership seeks to improve education for all students and fostering more Research-Practice Partnerships. This qualitative study examines three existing research partnerships within the Public-School Partnership and their alignment to the four key characteristics of Research-Practice Partnerships and how these key elements impact their work and partnerships. Results indicate that Research-Practice Partnerships depend on the partners to thrive, but it is a complex system.
