Abstract

The purpose of this literature review is to identify the varying interests involved in the gentrification of a school and to consider how principals mediate these interests. Twenty empirical articles were reviewed and organized into themes. Utilizing Horsford’s (2016) notions of “Black equality” and “White Freedom” as a framework to understand the literature, findings reveal that there are many interests implicated in school gentrification however, the interests of the gentry is often prioritized over those of the schools existing poor and working-class Black and Brown families in both practice and scholarship.
