Adaptive learning aims to help learners with different levels of prerequisites better navigate learning by providing personalized support. However, few empirical studies were available to investigate how different learners responded to the adaptive scaffolding based on their varied prior knowledge levels. In this study, we analyzed the behavioral patterns of incoming pharmacy students in a graduate program as they used an adaptive learning system that prepared them for graduate courses in Biology and Chemistry. This research provides empirical evidences and useful insights about how analytics can inform the effective instructional design in adaptive learning in higher education settings.
