n this study, we explored teachers’ conceptions and implementations of mathematically productive relationships (MPRs) as well as how their MPRs impacted their mathematical classroom management. Four common themes about the core features of MPRs were uncovered: (i) creating safe, mistake-friendly environments, (ii) developing trust and respect between the teacher and student, (iii) establishing and maintaining clear and high expectations, and (iv) ensuring classrooms consistently remain safe spaces. Three typical cases were analyzed to how the teachers’ perceptions are reflected in their instruction and how the enacted MPRs impacted their classroom management. A positive enacted MPR contributes to an effective mathematical classroom management through meaningful engagement of students.
