Poster #49 - Exploring School Ecologies for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Use Through Designs for ICT Facilitator Roles

Tue, April 9, 10:25 to 11:55am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

This paper explores how a school can design structures for ICT use, and the interrelationships between that design and impact on ICT use of a large number of learners and a wide range of stakeholders. The paper features four cases, each of which presents an initial design for an ICT facilitator role in a school, in terms of organizational unit memberships, and decision-making capacity. A content analysis was applied to interviews with the ICT facilitators, other school stakeholders, and to school documents to specify patterns in ICT facilitator design structures. ICT facilitators that make implementation scope decisions with senior leader teams have outsize impact on mainstreaming ICT use not least through facilitators’ membership in teacher teams.
