The purpose of this quantitative study is to examine the relationship between athletic department expenditures and track and field athletic performance. The scope of this study covered 51 Power 5 institutions. The US Department of Education Equity in Athletics Data Analysis (EADA) provided financial data, while performance data was attained from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. A multiple linear regression was used and found athletic department recruiting expenditures and total track and field expenses were significant predictors of track and field rankings at p<.05.
