In the United States the number of Women of Color (WOC) in graduate programs has increase over the past decades but there are still far fewer compared to their white and male counterparts (U.S. Department of Education, 2016). WOC continue to be marginalized in academia (Burciaga, 2007; Gutierrez y Muhs et al., 2012) and subsequently, this research focuses on WOC in graduate programs to highlight the ways they navigated higher. Utilizing Critical Race Theory (Solórzano, 1998) this research centers WOC through semi-structured interviews (Seidman, 2013). It is important to gain insight into the dimensional issues WOC face for a more equitable institution, and learn what is needed to insure the retention of more WOC in academia.
