Reasonable Pluralism and the Ethical Pursuit of Public Knowledge

Abstract

The theme of AERA’s Call for Submissions this year is “Leveraging Education Research in a ‘Post-Truth’ Era: Multimodal Narratives to Democratize Evidence.” The subtitle suggests a need to prioritize moral-political concerns over epistemological considerations in educational scholarship, which I argue is unlikely to have the desired effect of enhancing the credibility of research or contributing to the protection of liberal democracy or greater realization of productive pluralism.
