The purpose of the present paper is to explore perspectives of early childhood teachers regarding their experience with coaching and how it is linked to quality improvement. The participants include 20 teachers who received coaching through a city-wide program. Using a social constructive approach, the focus of this study is how coaching may influence early childhood teachers and which components of coaching teachers view as critical support for quality improvement in early care and education. Results reveal that teachers experience coaching in the context of human relationships, in which the relationship each coach and teacher establishes is a key to a successful coaching outcome. Findings provide implications for our understanding of teacher development in early care and education.
