This study explores early implementation of a large-scale Chilean interim assessment called Evaluacion Progresiva (EP). It examines how Chilean teachers understand and use information provided by score reports on this optional assessment. EP is a unique case because it is Chile’s first interim assessment, and educators have little training in interpreting and making instructional adjustments based on test scores. As such, it provides insight into how educators respond to large-scale testing designed to be both formative and voluntary. We interviewed a principal, two coordinators and two teachers representing five schools and learned that they highly value the information provided, correctly interpret reports, and use reports both to identify skills that required class-wide remediation and to identify students needing extra support.
