Social-Emotional Learning Programs: Ways for Schools to Reduce Bullying, Harassment, and Dating Violence

Abstract

Certain Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programs have been shown to have an impact in reducing bullying and homophobic harassment in middle schools. Large-scale longitudinal studies have demonstrated a link among bullying, homophobia, and sexual violence. For teachers and teacher educators to be able to reduce forms of gendered violence we need to be able to implement on a broader scale, content and strategies from these successfully implemented programs that focus on issues of gender.
