Occupying and Creating Spaces in the Academy

Abstract

What does it take to become part of the academy? How can we ensure there are spaces for emerging women researchers and scholars? This presentation draws on narrative accounts of the experiences of women as they navigate academic leadership positions in New Zealand and Ontario, Canada. Using the lived experiences of self and others engaged in women mentoring partnerships, we will examine the potential and pitfalls in today’s academic context for young women entering academia and the responsibilities of those of us already there.
