Special Education Policy from the Perspective of Inclusive Education in Brazil and Worldwide: Lessons of a Decade

Abstract

This year WERA celebrates 10 years of existence. In the same way, in Brazil, we are celebrating 10 years from enactment of the National Policy on Special Education from the perspective of Inclusive Education (PNEE-EI) and, with it, a set of political proposals that originated the Specialized Educational Assistance and the establishment of such service in the Brazilian schools. The main focus of these policies was the defense of the common school space for the schooling of students with disabilities, among other aspects. Across the Americas, we have a recent history of implementing diversity policies in Educational Systems. This way, our proposal here is a discussion about how WERA can help us to understand this important topic in our arena of research in the national and worldwide view.
