Session Summary

61.043 - Structured Poster Session: The Role of School Leadership for Sustainable Professional Learning Networks

Mon, April 8, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Room 801A

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

Professional Learning Networks represents a promising approach to achieving continuous school improvement. At the same time, we still have much to learn about effective processes, influencing factors and effects. Ensuring depth and breadth of learning, and paying attention to supporting conditions, are two major themes for further research (Daly & Stoll, 2018). Leadership is essential for both. A recent systematic review indicates that leadership factors such as support and modeling are important for sustainable educational change. The findings also suggest, however, that there is a lack of studies examining long-term effects of interventions, and specifically PLNs. This session, therefore, brings together new knowledge and insight from researchers from seven countries about the role of school leadership for sustainable PLNs.
